Count Down's Countdown Counts Down
STORY:
As his death creeps up on him, Count Down questions whether he has lived his life properly. However, he won't give up just yet. Use his power to steal life force from his subjects and use the newly gained time to climb down to the bottom of the tower. Be careful though: Every step down costs one year of his newly gained lifespan.

ABOUT:
This game was made for the GMTK jam 2026 with the theme "Countdown", which we decided to implement in as many ways as possible. For our fifth year, we're going back to my roots with a classic tile-based turn-based puzzle game. A lot less ambitious than the last two years because of IRL obligations like having to work to earn a living, but we're still pretty happy with how this turned out. Also girlfriend's first attempt at pixel art, I think she did a splendid job!
CREDITS:
Made entirely by my girlfriend (concept, art, sound director, music) and me (concept, level design, coding, tiny bit of music). Additional sound effects found on opengameart.org and zapsplat.com.

Never saw an ending like that before!
A twist ending? In one of our GMTK jam games? Absolutely unheard of!
